January Progress Report
Apparently cold weather and staying inside is keeping me busy at the sewing machine! I'm pretty excited about the progress I have made so far in finishing projects. Today, I even began sewing together my last leader/ender project...
This won't be the final setting, but I just had to see how it was all going to look together!(Do you need sunglasses to see it?) Cindy gifted me with the pattern quite sometime ago. It is fun and easy to put together...perfect as leaders/enders! I used a charm pack of Trade Winds by Lily Ashbury and some Amy Butler fabrics that I had on hand for this knock-your-socks-off colorful version! I just have 6 more blocks to sew together to make a lap size quilt.
Another fun quilt top that is close to being complete is my Flea Market Fancy version of the Good Fortune pattern by Kate Spain (on the left). My friend, Vicki, and I only sew on these quilts when we are together. A white border is all that's left to add before we move on to the quilting stage. I love Vicki's softer version on the right...
Half of my Postage Stamp blocks are set together! It goes pretty fast and will be a quilt top soon!
You are probably sick of seeing the Batman quilts, Pow! and Bam!, but I couldn't not mention them in a post about January progress. The quilts will be on the boys' beds very soon now!
Last, but certainly not least, is this Madrona Road challenge project for the Modern Quilt Guild. Tonight is the 'Big Reveal' for the Kansas City Guild and I'm excited to see every one's finished quilts. Tomorrow, I'm planning a post featuring my quilt and maybe some of the other members' quilts as well.

February 365 Photo Challenge: Week 1
Another week of prompts and another week of pictures...this was my favorite seven days of captures so far! I'm becoming a bit more comfortable with playing with my camera settings and looking for good subjects with a story to tell. This week I witnessed a gorgeous moonrise; photographed my favorite vintage mixing bowls; came face to face with Rambo (look closely); enjoyed drinking from a new mug with a special message; spent time with my favorite l year old; finished a quilt called Playing in the Road; and mixed up some yummy apple bread. On My Design Wall
Before we moved almost 6 years ago, I had enjoyed a wall sized design wall in an entire room designated as 'the sewing room'. Then my design wall changed to a 3 foot piece of foam board propped up on the twin bed that shared space in my 'new sewing room/guest room'. A few months ago, I moved my 'sewing room' again to an alcove off the master bedroom. Here's my design wall now: a piece of flannel covered insulation board leaning against an underused fireplace. It works.

Double Finish!
The salesman at the Bat Mobile dealership was pretty excited that I stopped by to ask if he'd mind letting me use the yellow vehicle for a quilt photo shoot. Beings that he was a bit worried that the quilts might scratch the paint, I assured him that they were nice and soft! (That last sentence is the absolute truth!) I'm guessing he doesn't own any quilts himself.
The bat mobile is certainly "perfect", but you really can't see the quilts that well. So onto something a little more mundane, but probably more sensible...a fence!
I think of these fun quilts as fraternal twins: alike but different...
I made this quilt first, adding random irregular pieces around the frames of each block. I like the "pow" factor of the wonky strips and love how well the method accents the Batman fabrics.They sort of look like comic book pages, don't you think?
For the twin quilt, I chose four different greys for the background and shaded them dark to light. The batman fabrics are the same but I used a simpler frame and scissors to cut the strips so they are a bit more wavy than in the first quilt. The quilting is similar: flowing vertical lines (see the lower quilt above) which I prefer over the first.
Leftover Batman yardage was used for the binding and I like the way that it frames the grey background. I forgot to take a picture of the backing but you can see it here if you're interested. My grandsons, Oliver and Ezra, have birthdays just 4 days apart in early February. I hope that they have many years of enjoyment cuddling with these quilts.
I know that I sure got lots of enjoyment making them! I'm also pretty excited about having two finishes in the month of January to start 2013 out right!

For the quilting, I tried a sort of honey comb (the top quilt below) and am not really sure that I like it that well, but wanted something easy, quick and widely spaced, making for a cuddly quilt.

Works in Progress
Half-way. I'm half-way through the Big Rip. It's all down hill from here!
In other news: Bernie Bernina and I have a quilting project going on...
Excitedly, blocks from the members of my Mid-Century Modern Quilter's Bee have safely arrived...
... and are looking so bright and pretty together. My plan is to continue making pink and orange Juicy Fruit blocks...enough for a twin size quilt. It's a good start!
