Friendship Diamonds

Over the weekend, I got together with my BFF, Jan, at her home in El Dorado, Kansas, near Wichita.  One of the important things on our list of things to do was to set this diamond quilt together.
You may recall that a few months ago I showed you my version of this quilt. The diamonds were not consistent in size due to the construction method given in the pattern as well as two of us making them on different machines  .
Jan and I both became frustrated with our blocks and hid them away for the last five years. Finally, I realized that I could easily trim them all up with my triangle ruler so that they would be equal in size. Friday, Jan and I worked together to get her top all put together so that it could join mine.
These Gypsy Diamond quilts are probably about the 10th friendship quilts that Jan and I have worked on together. This one just took the longest! As you can see, we used different fabrics for the setting triangles and Jan added a pretty pink border to hers.
I wonder who will get theirs quilted first?
And how shall we quilt them? We've only had since 2009 to think about it!

  5. They are both beautiful!
Secretly, we quilters love such challenges (like trimming them all to fit) - they keep us thinking on our toes. Don't we?

  13. Like Mary said, I love that you and Jan make quilts together. And as to who will get theirs quilted first, well, let's just say that if it was a contest between you and me, we both know who would win. Come to think of it, we actually HAVE been in that situation before!

  14. Wow! Those are big quilts! I'd say it took a while to make them, whether you faced challenges or not. I can't get over how much the two of you look alike. Maybe it's the hair length, or the glasses, but you're both so cute! You could be cousins, at least. It's great that you sew together like this... with two different friends! You are most fortunate.

  16. Look at you two! I love they you've managed to get the tops finished and they haven't beaten you. The quilts are huge! All over large stipple meander? My go to when I don't know and don't want to stitch in the ditch if I think the joins are a bit dodgy.
